Do you want to be a Hedgerow Hero and help us restore hedgerows in Draycott?
CPRE Derbyshire, the countryside charity approached the Council about adding some new native hedgerows to the area as part of a national project started in 2021. As part of CPRE’s 2026 centenary celebrations, CPRE have committed to deliver a total of 100 miles of new and restored hedgerows across the country.
Planting and restoring hedgerows can prevent soil erosion, increase biodiversity by providing wildlife habitat for many species of birds, insects, butterflies and small mammals and can increse the overall aesthtic appeal of a landscape. Through volunteering, you will be helping to look after our fantasic countryside and ensuring the success of this vital project in our area.
We recently had a visit to assess various sites and we’re pleased to report that about 500m of new native hedgerows are due to be planted in the village during mid-December 2025 and early February 2026.
The hedgerow planting days in Draycott are planned for 15-16 December 2025 at Draycott Cemetery and again on 9-11 February 2026 at another location off Hopwell Road.
Groundwork, CPRE Derbyshire’s partner in this project will provide tools, training and supervision – no experience is necessary.
The planting days are run from 9.30am – 3.00pm.
